Topic: Accelerating the Drive to Monetize and Diversify New Energy Resources

Professor Paul Fennell FIChemE FRGS is a Professor of Clean Energy at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. Paul has published more than 100 papers in the field of clean energy, including papers in Energy and Environmental Science, Science, and Nature, with more than 20,000 citations and with an h-factor of 58. His work was cited more than 20 times in the most recent IPCC assessment report. Prof Fennell’s research group has attracted more than £10 million in competitive funding. The Professor's commercial energy and biomass consultancy work includes many projects for prestigious bodies such as the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the European Commission and many others. Recently Paul headed up the IEAGHG report From Carbon Dioxide to Building Materials – Improving Process Efficiency’, which determined the size of the market for many carbonated building products. Currently the Fennell Research group are reviewing the possibilities for performance-based, rather than prescriptive, standards for cement and concrete materials, and quantifying the market size for different potential novel materials, again for IEAGHG. In 2015 they were awarded the IChemE Ambassador prize.
