Priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank were discussed in Ashgabat

The Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Serdar Jorayev held a meeting with the Executive Director of the World Bank Dominique Favre, at which the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation and outlined further plans for cooperation. One of the key topics was the COVID-19 response project in Turkmenistan, for the implementation of which the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development allocated $20 million. Jorayev noted that a significant part of the allocated funds has been successfully disbursed and aimed at strengthening Turkmenistan's readiness to respond to the pandemic. Favre said that the country is a leader in the region in the implementation of this project and stressed the readiness of the World Bank for further cooperation on this issue. In this regard, the possible extension of the project and additional financing in case of interest of Turkmenistan were discussed. The interlocutors also discussed the details of the implementation of a joint project aimed at supporting private producers of fruit and vegetable products in Turkmenistan, as well as the preparation of a new country program and the appointment of the head of the World Bank representative office in the country. It was noted that there are prospects for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank in the field of green energy. In addition, projects implemented by the World Bank in Central Asian countries — Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan - can serve as an example of possible areas for further cooperation. At the end of the meeting, Favre recalled that the annual meeting of the World Bank will be held in Morocco in October 2023, and he expects the participation of the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan in it.
